Botox and Breast Augmentation Amongst the Most Popular Cosmetic Procedures

Ryan Green | September 21, 2012 | Posted in Breast Augmentation, Skin Care

Nearly 14 million cosmetic procedures were performed in the U.S. in 2011, 90% of which were minimally invasive procedures, such as Botox or other filler injections, chemical peels, and laser skin resurfacing.

Plastic surgery procedures in New York: Dr. Loeb

Dr. Loeb is a leader in the field of plastic surgery NYC, and is expert at performing Botox injections, which were 2011’s most popular procedure overall. Dr. Loeb uses Botox injections to give the skin a smooth, more youthful look by relaxing targeted muscles in the face.

In 2011, 5 million Botox procedures were performed in the U.S. The second most popular were procedures — performed 1.9 million times — involving volume-enhancing gels such as Restalyne, which rejuvenate the skin by filling wrinkles and creases, and providing a youthful refreshment to skin tone and texture.

Botox, Restalyne Top List of Cosmetic Procedures

The numbers come from the annual report on cosmetic procedures released by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). The report, which was analyzed by web site 24/7 Wall Street, reveals that the total number of cosmetic procedures performed in the U.S. has doubled since 2000. Though surgeries are on a slight decline, more minimally invasive procedures, such as Botox and chemical peels, are increasing dramatically, by at least 120% over the same period. Part of the reason may be financial: while the average cosmetic surgical procedure costs $3694, the average minimally invasive procedure costs $376.

As ASPS president Malcolm Z. Roth explains, “Patients want quick fixes with minimal or no down time.” Use of injectables like Restylane, Juvederm, and Botox “can offer dramatic improvement for many with less risk, cost and down time.”

In 2011 in the U.S., 1.5 million cosmetic surgeries were performed. Upper arm and lower body lifts have increased in popularity by and enormous 4000% since 2000, an increase that is due in part to a growth in bariatric, or weight loss, surgery. Breast lifts and tummy tucks also increased by 75%.

The top 10 cosmetic surgeries performed in 2011, all of which are offered by Dr. Loeb, include, in descending order of rank …

  • Ear surgery
  • Forehead lift
  • Dermabrasion
  • Breast lift
  • Tummy tuck
