Face Liposuction New York | Face and Neck Liposuction
Facial and neck liposuction extracts excess deposits, or lumps of fat from the cheeks, chin, jowls, jawline, and neck. Fatty deposits in the face and neck are often simply family traits or genetic predispositions that are impossible to correct without surgery. This procedure removes fat that does not respond to diet, exercise or weight loss, and reshapes the contours of the face to achieve a slimmer, more attractive look.
Renowned Manhatttan plastic surgeon, Dr. Thomas Loeb, will conduct a personal consultation to determine whether facial liposuction is an appropriate choice for you. Age alone is not a significant qualifying or disqualifying factor; Dr. Loeb routinely performs the surgery with success on patients from ages 16 to 65. The best candidates are those that lead active, healthy lifestyles, and who are of average or close-to-average weight. Patients with distinct fat deposits or bulges of fat in the face and neck area will be best served by the surgery, as will those with smooth, elastic skin. Loose-hanging or wrinkled skin in the affected area may indicate a lack of elasticity. In theses instances, liposuction alone may not solve the problem.
Dr. Loeb can also suggest additional cosmetic surgical procedures, such as skin removal, skin reduction, fat transfer, or a facelift. Smokers will be asked to stop smoking well before surgery, as smoking constricts blood vessels and hampers blood flow necessary for the post-surgery healing process. Dr. Loeb will carefully review your entire medical history to determine your health status prior to surgery. Finally, it is important to note that patients who gain the most satisfaction and fulfillment from this procedure are those who go into it with realistic expectations. Dr. Loeb is not reconstructing your face, but rather re-shaping its contours to give you a sleeker, more aesthetic and youthful appearance.
Facial and neck liposuction is a low-risk procedure that can be performed with either local, mild sedation or general anesthetic. Dr. Loeb will review the relative benefits and risks of each during your consultation. It is generally a quick procedure that does not require a hospital stay. First, Dr. Loeb places tiny incisions in inconspicuous spots around the face or neck. Thin metal tubes called cannulas are inserted into the incisions and then a vacuum suctions the fat out through the tubes. Throughout the procedure, Dr. Loeb makes sure to leave a blanket of fat attached beneath the skin in an effort to minimize any irregularities or rippling of the skin. Finally, the incisions are closed.
In most cases, patients return home within hours of the surgery. You may experience mild soreness for up to 3 weeks after having the procedure. However, discomfort is easily managed with mild painkillers. One or two tiny stitches may be required to suture the surgical incisions, and a close-fit elastic dressing will be worn in the days following the procedure. Normal swelling and bruising in the surgical area may last for several weeks. You should be able to resume all usual daily activities within just 2 to 4 days after undergoing surgery.
In addition to facial liposuction, you may consider having the procedure on other trouble spots at the same time. Dr. Loeb performs liposuction on all areas of the body including hips, thighs, buttocks, and abdomen. Or you may wish to consider enhancing the new contours of your face with other rejuvenating facial skin treatments such as dermabrasion, Botox, and other injectables.
