A new study released in the journal of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, examined whether there might be an increase in complications from combined cosmetic procedures. The researchers concluded that the complication rates and re-operation rates were comparable among women undergoing a combined breast augmentation and lift surgery and those who had the procedures separately. The researchers also noted that women typically prefer to have multiple procedures performed simultaneously, rather than undergoing two or more procedures at different times.
The researchers involved in the study performed a combined total of 430 breast lift procedures (also called a mastopexy) from 2005 to 2009. Of those, 332 women had a combined lift and augmentation with breast implants. The average rate of complications among women having a combined procedure was approximately 23 percent, which is comparable to the rate of complications among those having staged procedures.
