Juvederm NYC | Juvederm Side Effects
Having Juvederm in NYC? Learn more about what to expect from consultation to side effects and recovery.
Dr. Loeb is a board certified plastic surgeon in NYC, utilizing all the of the latest and best dermal fillers available today. During your initial consultation for Juvederm in NYC, Dr. Loeb will discuss your concerns and desired appearance. Together, you will review the different types of dermal fillers and choose which one is best suited to your needs.
For those who choose Juvederm, Dr. Loeb will mark all your “problem areas” – the lines and wrinkles to be filled. These marks will serve as guides during the treatment.
Before your procedure, your face will be washed with an antibacterial agent. Then, a topical anesthetic will be applied, so as to reduce any discomfort from the fine needle injections. In some cases, this second step is unnecessary because dermal fillers often come with anesthetic included. (Note that if you have deep wrinkles or scarring, especially in the nasolabial folds and/or marionette lines, you may require multiple Juvederm injections. If this is the case, we will offer a local anesthetic to keep you comfortable.)
Each Juverderm injection takes just seconds, and the entire procedure will last just a few minutes.
Your face will be washed to remove the marks that Dr. Loeb used as guidelines. Most patients experience little to no Juvederm side effects, but if you feel any discomfort at all, we’ll offer an ice pack. If you’d like, you may reapply your makeup, but you’ll want to refrain from putting pressure on your injection sites.
Juvederm takes just 30 minutes from start to finish, so we’ll have you on your way before lunch is even over. You can resume normal activities immediately, and return to life as usual – only sans fine lines and wrinkles! Note that during the first 24 hours following your treatment, you should refrain from serious exercise, alcohol, and extended exposure to the heat, sunshine, or UV rays.
Most patients experience little or no side effects from Juvederm. However, the most common discomforts following the procedure include reactions around the injection sites; these may include redness, swelling, pain or tenderness, lumps, itching, bruising, and discoloration. As with other dermal fillers and injection procedures, there is a small risk of infection.
Additionally, Juvederm may not be recommended for certain patients, including those on some medications, so please inform Dr. Loeb before your procedure of any prescription or OTC drugs you are taking. Furthermore, though Juvederm is biocompatible and therefore allergy skin testing is not required, some people are not ideal candidates for the filler. These include:
