Hand Lifts Help Beautify Engagement Ring Selfies

Hand Lifts in New York - Juvederm & Engagement Ring SelfiesIf “engagement ring selfies” are now a trend, it’s possible “hand lifts” will soon be, too.

Now brides-to-be wanting to capture that lifetime memory of their wedding or engagement can take their efforts to a new level, thanks to a Juvederm treatment that leaves hands looking younger, smoother and more captivatingly luxurious.

A desire to look flawless while flashing one’s engagement ring in social media circles is spurring the popularity of these so-called “hand lifts” among women. The cosmetic procedure itself is not new; but it has enjoyed a 40 percent spike in demand since the advent of social media and the now-ubiquitous “selfie.”

How hand lifts work

With time, skin on the hands can lose fat, making the bones, veins and wrinkles more prominently visible. In the procedure, a plastic surgeon injects Juvederm, or hyaluronic acid, a sugar that naturally occurs in the skin, muscles and tendons of mammals, into the hands in order to smooth out wrinkles and plump the skin. The results appear instantaneously after the ten-minute procedure, and usually last for about 9 months (or between 6 mos and 1 year). In the vast majority of cases, just one treatment is necessary to achieve desired results.

Other uses of Juvederm

In addition to beautifying and freshening up the appearance of skin on the hands, Juvederm also corrects moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds, commonly called “smile lines,” which are the lines that form from the nose to the corners of the mouth. Other facial areas that can with time show clear evidence of the skin’s aging are the melolabial or laugh lines, the nasojugal or tear trough folds, and the marionette line (that circumscribes the chin).

Juvederm, unlike some hyaluronic gel products that have a granular consistency, is smooth in consistency. Juvederm works by holding in water at the site of injection and acting as a cushioning agent, adding temporary volume and a smoother texture to skin, and thereby counteracting the inevitable effects of aging.

Alternatives to Juvederm—Restylane

Restylane is ideal for lip augmentation and as filler for frown lines, smile lines, crows feet, and other facial imperfections. Like Juvederm, Restylane injections are made of hyaluronic acid, and can therefore provide resilience and volume to your skin.

Restylane injections last approximately 30 minutes, and are administered with local anesthetic to reduce any discomfort. The procedure is considered safe and gentle. Little to no risk of an allergic reaction with Restylane injections renders any prior skin test unnecessary. Results are visible immediately, and typically last six months to one year or longer.

Related procedures

Both Juvederm and Restylane can be combined with other procedures, including Fractora, Botox or laser resurfacing, to improve results and further restore youth.
