Radiesse

Radiesse is a facial filler that excels at smoothing fine lines and wrinkles from the inside out, restoring skin to its fresh, youthful volume. The innovative Radiesse formula provides natural-looking results that typically last much longer than other facial fillers — many of Dr. Loeb’s patients who receive Radiesse treatments do not require touch-up treatments for up to two years. Radiesse injections, which require only topical or localized anesthetic, amplify areas of the face where natural contours due to fat deposits have decreased or been displaced.

Planning

Dr. Loeb will consult with you one-on-one to explain how the skin rejuvenation procedure works, and to determine your expectations for the final result. See before & after photos of Radiesse treatment to get an idea of the results you can expect.

Radiesse works best to resolve the following cosmetic concerns:

  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Deep lines between the mouth and nose (nasolabial folds)
  • Lines running from the mouth to the chin (marionette lines)
  • Sunken cheeks or chin

Before Dr. Loeb administers a wrinkle filler such as Radiesse, he takes a full medical history to ensure there are no underlying conditions or medications that could impact the outcome of your treatment. Dr. Loeb will also reinforce the fact that the revitalizing effects of Radiesse, though reversible, are long lasting. This is due to its unique composition, which includes a carrier gel and microspheres of calcium hydroxylapatite (CHA), a natural substance found in teeth and bones. The CHA not only forms a foundation in the soft tissue under your skin, it also stimulates your body’s own collagen production.

Procedure

Dr. Loeb first selects the precise locations for the injections, based on your previous consultation. Because there is minimal discomfort with Radiesse injections, patients usually undergo treatment with only a local anesthetic. Dr. Loeb may utilize special cooling devices to keep you comfortable during the procedure. The Radiesse solution is injected into the skin using a very fine needle placed underneath the dermis and subcutis layers of skin. The entire procedure usually takes just a few minutes to complete, based on the size of the area to be addressed.

Recovery

Most patients can return to normal activities immediately after Radiesse injections. Dr. Loeb will instruct you to avoid rubbing the treated area for a number of hours after the procedure. Patients are also advised to avoid direct sun exposure for a few days. There may be some mild bruising and swelling after treatment, which can be managed through over the counter pain medication. Results of Radiesse wrinkle filler are evident right away, with full results seen within one week.

Related Procedures

Radiesse may be performed alone or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. One of the most popular combinations is Radiesse and Botox, which between them can address nearly all the fine lines and deeper wrinkles of the face. Radiesse may also be used with chin implants, cheek augmentation, or skin rejuvenation procedures like chemical peels, dermabrasion, or laser skin resurfacing.
