Baby Boomer Plastic Surgery – Facelifts, Botox on Rise for Boomers
AESTHETIC NEWS
They say that 60 is the new 40, and with recent advancements in cosmetic surgery, an increasing number of seniors are making the most of their Golden Years with the help of skilled plastic surgeons. Baby boomers account for nearly 20 percent of our total population and, according to recent statistics from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), this demographic has opted to redefine the concept of aging gracefully thanks to Botox, laser treatments and a host of other procedures.
Boomers, who were born between 1946 and 1964, seem determined to hold on to their youth for as long as possible, and aren’t afraid of a little nip and tuck. From body contouring and liposuction to forehead lifts to rhinoplasty, baby boomer plastic surgery is more popular than ever.
Rejuvenating procedures – both drastic and minimally invasive — are available for the breasts, hair line, face and body, allowing ample opportunities for boomers to stop, or at least temporarily halt the signs of aging.
In 2022, a total of 6,874,869 baby boomers had plastic surgery, reflecting an upward trend in recent years. The report also found that more women than men seek enhancements, and overall account for almost 90 percent of all cosmetic surgery procedures in 2022.
A nutritious diet and regular exercise are integral to aging well, but for some reaching their mid 50’s, genetics, years of smoking and sun exposure have taken a toll. According to RealSelf, elective plastic surgery among boomers is up 65 percent over the last decade, and the demand for non-invasive treatments up 87 percent as well.
In fact, non-surgical or minimally-invasive treatments are quickly gaining traction for men and women in their 50s and 60s who want to look as young as they feel, but don’t want the risks associated with general anesthesia. Dermal fillers and Botox can erase years off a patient’s face in a matter of days, and microdermabrasion is a painless and easy way to have glowing, refreshed skin.
As more baby boomers approach retirement age, they are increasingly embracing new ways to stay healthy, active and “forever young.” For those considering plastic surgery in New York City, Dr. Thomas Loeb is one of Manhattan’s most respected surgeons. His expertise has been featured on such shows as the CBS Evening News, The View, ABC News and Inside Edition. He is also frequently in lists naming the “Best Plastic Surgeons in NYC.”
