8 Ways to Ditch Your Neck Wrinkles

Senior female face with wrinkled neck skinYour neck might be the last place you worry about getting wrinkles, but one day you might look down and see wrinkled, crepey and sagging skin. Luckily, the ways to fight back against neck wrinkles are as numerous as their causes.

From diet, exercise and basic skin care to cosmetic surgery, here are 8 ways you can ditch your neck wrinkles.

Take Care of Your Skin

Neck and décolleté skin is incredibly delicate, and daily exposure to sun, dirt, wind and other environmental factors can leave it looking dry, dull and wrinkled. One easy and healthy way to repair and even prevent neck wrinkles is to take care of your skin. Daily sunscreen is key, but anti-aging moisturizers and creams with antioxidants and vitamin C can also help boost collagen production to smooth wrinkles naturally.

Tone and Strengthen

Side sleeping is another major cause of neck wrinkles, as the forceful pressure of skin against pillow at night can weaken neck muscles and skin elasticity. If you don’t want to try sleeping on your back, do regular facial strengthening exercises to tighten your neck muscles for a more sculpted look.

Hyaluronic Acid Filler

Hyaluronic acid fillers are ideal for smoothing out horizontal necklines as it plumps and fills wrinkles to soften or even erase them entirely. These filler treatments take no more than ten minutes, but the results can last for a year.

Botox

Botox, on the other hand, is most commonly used to soften the appearance of vertical “platysmal band” neck wrinkles. Botox can help tighten neck skin by stimulating the underlying muscle. However, its effect lasts a few months, and it may not work at all in extreme cases.

Ultherapy

Ultherapy is an FDA-approved, non-surgical treatment that uses ultrasound energy to tighten skin. This treatment is especially effective because it allows practitioners to see deep tissue layers with ultrasound imaging during the procedure, ensuring the ultrasound energy is directed at target areas.

Kybella

Extra fat, often called a double chin, is often seen alongside neck wrinkles. Kybella is an injectable treatment that reduces this excess fat to smooth the neck area. If your neck wrinkles are caused by a double chin, Kybella may be the most effective treatment for you. However, Kybella does not treat skin laxity and therefore cannot tighten loose skin after the fat is removed.

Neck Lift Surgery

A neck lift is the most comprehensive and long-lasting treatment of them all. A traditional neck lift removes excess fat in the neck, repairs weakened muscles, and tightens sagging skin. During the procedure, any loose skin is removed to remove strain from connective tissues and muscles to bring back definition to the face and jaw.
