What’s the Most Popular Post-Pandemic Cosmetic Surgery Trend?

It’s certainly debatable whether the pandemic is really over or not, though lockdowns and business closures do seem to be a thing of the past, and plastic surgery is booming once again. So far, the most popular post-pandemic cosmetic surgery trend has been liposuction, which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who indulged in a newfound passion for baking during lockdown.

Liposuction for those pandemic pounds

During the height of the pandemic, when everyone stayed at home and couldn’t hit the gym, the collective weight of Americans trended upwards. The stress of the situation didn’t help, either, and it’s quite common to turn to sugary or fatty foods when stressed. This is particularly true of people unfortunate enough to have lost a loved one to COVID.

As a result, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) states that liposuction was the most popular procedure of 2021 to 2022. Liposuction has been particularly popular among patients ages 31 to 45.

Following liposuction, the next most popular cosmetic procedures in order were facelifts, breast augmentation, tummy tucks, and breast lifts. Overall, cosmetic surgery boomed during the surveyed time period, with 76% of respondents stating that their plastic surgery practices had seen more patients than before the pandemic.

Some of the top reasons why patients have been visiting plastic surgeons at an increased rate are as follows:

  • To feel younger and refreshed after feeling as though they’d aged due to pandemic-related stress
  • To manage bodily changes they noticed during the pandemic
  • To improve their self-esteem and self-confidence
  • To improve “problem areas” they noticed during remote video calls

What to know before you have it done

If you aren’t yet part of the national liposuction trend, but are planning to be, there are a few things you need to know. First, make sure you visit a reputable, board-certified plastic surgeon. Liposuction is a type of surgery, and the provider you see should prioritize patient safety and health.

Second, keep in mind that liposuction isn’t intended as a primary weight loss method. Yes, you’ll lose some weight and inches, but the procedure can only be performed on someone who is already within a normal weight range for their height.

Liposuction is intended to be a body contouring procedure that helps patients get rid of stubborn bulges of fat that don’t respond well to a healthy diet and exercise routine.

And lastly, remember that it’s still possible to regain those unsightly bulges again. After your procedure, treat your body right by following a nutritious meal plan and exercising regularly.
