Deciding to undergo surgical procedures to correct the shape and size of your nose is a big decision, and while most patients leave feeling happy about their choice, some unknowingly choose inexperienced or unskilled surgeons and are left with results that don’t match what they had envisioned. Fortunately, just as the natural structure of your nose can be changed, a bad nose job can be corrected.

How long after rhinoplasty can I have a revision?

Healing from rhinoplasty surgery takes time, which means it will also take time before you are eligible to have a rhinoplasty revision. Waiting until your nose has completely healed not only makes for a safer, more responsible surgical procedure but also gives your nose time to “settle” into place. After a nose job, it is natural for it to look swollen and sometimes things can look off—even months after the procedure.

The rate of your recovery depends greatly on what you had done to your nose and your body’s ability to recover. Every person is different, which is why it is best to consult with an experienced surgeon who can provide guidance on exactly how long you should wait before undergoing a revision.

Can I have revision rhinoplasty after 6 months?

While each person heals differently, any qualified, experienced surgeon will suggest you wait at least 6 months before receiving rhinoplasty revision. This is especially true for revision nose tip surgery, which is one of the most popular rhinoplasty procedures but can also take longer to heal than other parts of the nose, such as the bridge. Still, depending on your case, your surgeon may suggest an even longer wait period of 9 to 12 months.

This can feel like a long time to live with a nose you don’t love, but the healing process is extremely important and if rushed, can result in more unsatisfactory results. However, while you may need to wait 6+ months before having the surgery, it doesn’t mean you have to wait to consult with a surgeon. You can use that time to research qualified candidates, have one-on-one consultations, and discuss surgical options for when your body is ready.
