Best NY Plastic Surgeons Respect Patient Privacy

Plastic Surgery FaceEvery year, thousands of men and women turn to New York’s best plastic surgeons to help improve their self-esteem, confidence and overall appearance. Whether seeking liposuction, breast augmentation or one of many innovative facial rejuvenating treatments, these patients entrust their doctors with intimate details and graphic before and after photos, which should be kept private as part of the doctor-patient confidentiality agreement.

Two NYC fashion photographers are now suing their Manhattan plastic surgeon, claiming he used post-operative images without their permission and displayed them for all the world to see. James Moritz and his partner Doug Hill say their surgeon took advantage of them while they were at their most vulnerable, and were shocked to see photos (several which included their faces) splashed on fliers, ads and billboards months after their 2012 surgery.

Patients humiliated after surgeon posted photos without permission

According to the New York Post, Hill and Moritz have taken legal action against their surgeon, and are seeking $18 million in compensation.  The suit was filed in the Manhattan Supreme Court, and accuses the Upper East Side surgeon of breaking his Hippocratic Oath, leaving his patients both distressed and humiliated.

Forty-seven-year-old Hill alleges that he found videos and photos in which his face and torso were visible on his surgeon’s Facebook page and Gotham Surgery website, including ones that showed “a distinctive tattoo on his lower abdomen.”

“These types of breaches in doctor-patient confidentiality have become more and more rampant in the digital age,” said Moritz and Hill’s attorney.

Privacy is paramount among the best plastic surgeons NYC

Patients who seek medical treatment, whether from a family care practitioner or cosmetic surgeon, must feel safe that their concerns, insecurities and health issues are kept confidential at all times.  Pre and post-op photos are common in plastic surgery practices, but such images should never be used for promotional or marketing purposes without the explicit permission from clients.

It is the responsibility of all health care professionals, including plastic surgeons, to respect the protection of personal information and patient images taken while under our care. NYC’s best plastic surgeons are always in compliance with privacy legislation, meaning your pre and post-op surgery photos will be guarded securely, and only used with your permission.

At the Fifth Avenue office of Dr. Thomas Loeb, we value our patients’ privacy and would never breach this important level of trust. Our extensive ‘before and after’ image gallery contains photos that were graciously provided with client permission.

The gallery enables prospective clients to share in other patient success stories, and also showcases Dr. Loeb’s expertise in the following types of plastic surgery procedures:
